The Top 10 Countries For Millionaires

Singapore is at the top of the list of the top 10 countries with the greatest proportion of millionaire households. This means that Singapore has 530,000 millionaires! OMFG!

1) Singapore
Population: 4.7 million
Percentage of Millionaire Households: 11.4%

Who would think the tiny Republic of Singapore would be crammed with so many millionaires? The country, all of just 247 square miles, has emerged from the recession and has rebounded in a big way. Its GDP, exports and manufacturing are all rising, and so, too, are home prices. That has led Singapore to boast the highest concentration of millionaires anywhere on the planet. Among its very rich: Ng Teng Fong, a real estate tycoon, and Wee Cho Yaw, who runs United Overseas Bank, one of Singapore's big lenders.

2) Hong Kong
Population: 7.1 million
Percentage of Millionaire Households: 8.8%

Hong Kong, the home of Li Ka-shing, who runs conglomerates Cheung Kong and Hutchison Whampoa, had 205,000 millionaire households in 2009 and takes the number two spot for percentage of millionaire households. Hong Kong's close relationship with mainland China brings benefits and risks, but it's been good for many of the wealthiest, who made their money by investing in a real estate market that has no shortage of swanky hotels and malls.

3) Switzerland
Population: 7.6 million
Percentage of Millionaire Households: 8.4%

The Swiss economy is recovering from slow growth during the recession, but a good many of its citizens thrived during the upswing, bringing it to third place in percentage of millionaire households. The country boasts 285,000 of them, up 19.5% from 2008. Driving the recovery: manufacturing, rising exports and consumer spending. Among the country's rich: Swiss biotech tycoon Ernesto Bertarelli, who is, perhaps, better known for winning the America's Cup in 2003.

4) Kuwait
Population: 2.8 million
Percentage of Millionaire Households: 8.2%

The rising price of oil has led to more millionaires in this tiny country. With some 100 billion barrels of crude, Kuwait has been growing rapidly. But the oil-dependent nation now plans to spend up to $140 billion over the next five years to diversify away from oil and to attract more investment -- a move that could help it ascend this list's ranks. Such a strategy may help billionaire Nasser Al Kharafi, chairman of one of the most diversified and largest conglomerates in the Arab world. His food division, Americana, has the Middle East franchise rights to KFC, Wimpy, TGI Fridays and Pizza Hut, among others.

5) Qatar
Population: 841,000
Percentage of Millionaire Households: 7.4%

Qatar's economy expanded by about 8.7% last year, thanks to growth in the natural gas business. That helped the country, already the world's largest gas exporter, to emerge from the global economic crisis pretty much unscathed, leaving many of its millionaire households in good stead. Among its megarich: Bader Al Darwish, with a fortune of about $1.7 billion. Al Darwish runs Darwish Holdings, which operates businesses including real estate, investments and retail services.

6) United Arab Emirates
Population: 4.9 million
Percentage of Millionaire Households: 6.2%

As the world's third-largest oil exporter, the UAE's economic growth is expected to rise to 3.2% this year, after posting a 1.3% increase in 2009,. Like others, its oil business has generated wealth among its citizens. It also helps that UAE isn't expected to suffer from the eurozone debt crisis. The country is home to Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair and his family, who run Mashreqbank and the second-largest flour milling company in the Mideast, as well as megamalls.

7) United States
Population: 310.2 million
Percentage of Millionaire Households: 4.1%

The 4.7 million U.S. millionaires in 2009 was up by 15.1% over 2008. But as a market percentage, the U.S. falls relatively low on the top 10 list. The country, which is home to two of the world's wealthiest people, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, saw its economy bounce back in 2009 from the year before as the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 40%. By the end of 2009, the economy grew at its fastest pace in more than six years, even though many businesses put the brakes on hiring.

8) Belgium
Population: 10.4 million
Percentage of Millionaire Households: 3.5%

Suffering from spiraling debt and political problems, Belgium still managed to hold on to a number of millionaires. The country has set a goal of getting its budget deficit to 4.8% of GDP in 2010, which is far below Europe's average. But Belgium's total debt will rise above 100% of GDP, placing it behind only Greece and Italy. The debt crisis in Europe will also likely take a toll on the country's economy in 2010. The good news is that Belgium has a trade surplus, and household savings are high. Among its richest: Albert Frere, who founded the media, utilities and oil conglomerate, Compagnie Nationale a Portefeuille.

9) Israel
Population: 7.4 million
Percentage of Millionaire Households: 3.3%

Unlike other markets, the story in Israel wasn't about rising real estate values or credit, but about gains in technology, which some say will help lead the country to continued economic growth. While 2009 was a good year for the economy, the current eurozone crisis could hurt Israeli exports because about 33% of them go to Europe. Rich man in Israel: shipping tycoon Sammy Ofer, worth north of $6 billion.

10) Taiwan
Population: 23 million
Percentage of Millionaire Households: 3%

Taiwan may be last on the top 10 list -- but that's still quite a feat. The country was hit hard by the recession mostly because its economy depends on trade. But as the world economy skittishly improves, Taiwanese families have seen their fortunes rise. The country now has some 230,000 millionaire households. That's an increase of 22.1% over 2008. One of its richest is Terry Gou of Foxconn, a maker of electronics for Apple (AAPL), Nokia (NOK), Nintendo and others. That company has been in the news recently because 13 of its workers have committed suicide or tried to.

Appreciation Dinner

A big thank you to all my staffs, especially those who had stayed with me (and the company) for years... Without you, these awards would not have been possible.

Whenever I go for such Appreciation Dinners organized by this client, I cannot help but to think of all the fond memories we had throughout the last 5 years.

I can still remember how hard we fought in 2004 and 2005, to beat our rival company to be the best in our industry.

I hope you are reading this.

Without you, I would not be where I am today. Even though we had drifted apart due to circumstances, but we shared many great times together, both at work and leisure (especially HK, KL and PH). I hope these will stay in our hearts.

Thank you PL.

The ranking for 2009's top 10 highest-earning artistes is finally out. This list, compiled based on each artistes' commercial viability, is put together with the help of representatives from various recording companies. After setting a record of raking in TW$7 billion last year, Taiwanese multi-hyphenate performer Jay Chou retains his top spot despite his slightly-dipped earnings of TW$5.5 billion (S$27 million) this year.

Right behind him are Taiwanese singer-songwriter, Lo Ta-yo, Chang Chen-yue, Jonathan Lee, and Zhou Hua Jian. They each earned S$23 million from their 58 sets of concert performances.

The second runner-up position belongs to Taiwanese girl group, S.H.E. Apart from filming 20 different commercials, the girls also released a self-penned book this year and raked in a total of S$18 million.

Taiwanese pop princess Jolin Tsai came in close behind the trio with a total earning of S$16 million. Apart from 24 corporate performances, and 11 commercial ads, the 29-year-old artiste went on a three-month long break in September after promoting her latest music album and has a slew of commercial offers waiting for her when she resumes work in January 2010.

Jolin's good friend, Show Luo, is next with his S$11 million earnings this year. Taiwanese rock band is ranked at sixth placing with their combined takings of S$10.3 million followed by Angela Chang at S$10 million, Wang Lee Hom at S$9.82 million, Zhang Hui Mei (A Mei) at S$7.44 million, and Fahrenheit at S$7.1 million.

Singapore’s 40 Richest Ranking

Hai, seems like the gap between the wealthy and the poor is getting bigger and bigger in Singapore. The poor only gets poorer, and the rich gets richer by the days!

---------------------------

Singapore is emerging from its deepest recession since the island became an independent nation in 1965. Though the economy may shrink up to 6% this year, there are signs that the worst is over. GDP expanded in the second quarter for the first time in a year. Exports and manufacturing were up in July, and property prices and sales are picking up. The country’s main stock index has jumped almost 90% since its March low.

All of this has meant a boost in the fortunes of the nation’s richest. The total net worth of Singapore’s top 40 is $39 billion, up 20% from last year’s $32 billion. Ng Teng Fong is No. 1 again, worth $8 billion, $1 billion more than last year. Kuok Khoon Hong’s net worth is up $2.2 billion to $3.5 billion, thanks in part to a 70% jump in the stock price of palm oil firm Wilmar International.

Some of the increase is due to the addition of very wealthy newcomers such as the Kwee brothers, who debut at No. 4 with a combined net worth of $3.2 billion. The Kwee brothers, who equally share ownership of Pontiac Land, the property developer that owns the city—state’s Ritz—Carlton, are not new money and are well—known in Singapore’s business circle. But they were not previously included due to lack of reliable financial information.

Other rich—listers like the Lien family, previously listed under Margaret Lien, got a boost from the inclusion of relatives’ holdings (done to treat rich listers as evenly as possible and to provide the broadest snapshot of Singapore’s wealth).

Oversea—Chinese Banking Corp.’s Lee Seng Wee’s fortune got a bump for a similar reason as we decided to combine his fortune with that of his brother Lee Seng Tee, who was No. 32 last year.

One set of brothers not on the list: the Kewalram Chanrais. While a holding company called Kewalram Singapore owns 23% of Olam (the company the family helped found), worth almost $700 million, the brothers are apparently excluded as potential beneficiaries.

Malaysian citizen Ong Beng Seng is listed this year with his Singaporean wife, Christina, who last appeared herself on this list in 2007. The Ongs live in the city—state and together have stakes in Singapore companies NSL and Kuo International, run by her brother Peter Fu Chong Cheng, who debuts with a $570 million fortune.

Overall, 19 on the list added to their wealth, including real estate tycoon Koh Wee Meng, who builds affordable housing and runs budget hotels, and Yao Hsiu Tung, whose Hi—P makes components for consumer products companies including Research In Motion, Procter & Gamble and Apple.

Thirteen returning tycoons are poorer than they were a year ago. The biggest loser in percentage terms was ship builder Brian Chang, whose fortune dropped 71% to $160 million.

A minimum net worth of $135 million was needed to make the cut, up from $120 million in 2008, and four of last year’s top 40 fell short. One of them was Kartar Singh Thakral, as shares in Australia—listed real estate investment trust Thakral Holdings are down 60% since last year. Another dropoff was Wong Fong Fui, a newcomer we profiled last year but whose fortune fell along with the stock of his Boustead Singapore, down 35% in the past year.

Public fortunes were calculated using share prices and exchange rates as of Aug. 28, 2009. For privately held assets, we estimated what they would be worth if public. This ranking, unlike Forbes’ list of the world’s billionaires, includes numerous nuclear family fortunes shared by individuals with their children and grandchildren, or with their siblings. Because so many fortunes include at least some relatives’ holdings, Forbes Asia no longer lists "and family" but rather details family information in the bios when appropriate. Where family fortunes are held by extended families, such as the Kwek cousins, we split them into separate entries.

The TOP 4o!:
1. Ng Teng Fong & family - $7B
Nation's richest for second consecutive year with 72% stake in Hong Kong-listed Tsim Sha Tsui Properties. Also owns privately held Far East Organization, which has developed more than 700 hotels, malls, condos in Singapore. Older son Robert oversees Hong Kong interests; younger son Philip manages Singapore. Creating hipper image: Quincy, 108-room hotel, styled after the trendy W Hotels chain.

2. Khoo Family - $6.1B
Late banker Khoo Teck Puat left fortune to 14 children in 2004. Family sold stake in Standard Chartered Bank in 2006 for estimated $4 billion. Held on to Goodwood Group of Hotels, which includes Singapore's Goodwood Park, run by daughter Mavis; daughter Elizabeth runs another hotel in Singapore. Khoo's estate gave $32 million for Peking University's new sports complex, venue for Beijing Olympics table tennis competition; $60 million for new medical school, a collaboration between Duke University and the National University of Singapore.

3. Wee Cho Yaw & family - $3.6B
Remains chairman of Singapore's United Overseas Bank after handing chief executive reigns to son Wee Ee Cheong last year. Bank shares up slightly over past year. Graduated from high school in China. President of the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations.

4. Zhong Sheng Jian - $1.8B

5. Kuok Khoon Hong - $1.3B

6. Kwek Leng Beng & family - $1.2B

Company foundation gave $200,000 to rebuild schools in China after Sichuan earthquake. Cousins Kwek Leng Kee (No. 13), Kwek Leng Peck (No. 25) and Malaysian billionaire Quek Leng Chan have own stakes in empire.

7. Peter Lim - $1.1B

8. Lee Seng Wee - $730M
Former chairman of Singapore's Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp., still sits on board. Director in family companies including Lee Rubber. Chairs Temasek Trust, a government-backed civic initiative.

I Miss My Childhood... Do You?

Other blogger's contributions all the way below

------
Do you often reminisce about your childhood?

Those days when you played marbles, five-stones, zero-point, barbie doll, transformers....

Those days when drinks were only 10 cents in the canteen... Wonder how prices have shot up in Primary Schools right now....

I am not sure about you, but for me, whenever I think about my childhood, I wish I had remain a child...

Let us go back in time right now....

This was one of my favourite hand-held game, Western Bar.

Although these hand-held games were not in 3D images or high definition, but they were so entertaining during our times, weren't they?

Do you remember battling it out with your friends with erasers bearing country flags? If you land on the opponent's eraser, you win his eraser. Such a simple game, yet it stayed with us for most of our Primary School years.

Who can forget these card games before UNO was introduced?
Old maid, Donkey and Happy Family.

Bubble Gum. The best part of these gums were not the gum itself, but the temporary tattoos you get on the wrapper.
Dap some water on the desired body part, leave the wrapper on the wet surface for about 5 mins, and VOILA, you have a coloured tattoo!

Do I have to elaborate on these tasty satay sticks?
I think they used to cost only 10cents per stick?

This was one of my favourite tidbits when I was young.
Provision shops still sell these now, but definitely not as tasty as before.
Used to buy like 10 packets at a go, and munch on them all night watching TV.

Ferrero Ro what? These round chocolate biscuit balls grew up with me.

Every kid in the 1990s would remember Sesame Street.
ABCDEFGH......

Micro Genius.
Street Fighter, Arkanoid, Circus, Super Mario, all these were games we played non stop before rival Sega came about.

One of the most popular Micro Genius game.

Then came Sega. It would be so uncool if you did not have a Sega Game Machine at home.
Sonic, The Golden Axe, Bare Knuckle...
Sega was so popular, shops were even set up to allow students to play/pay by an hourly rate.
The good thing is they have a whole list of games in their shop, so if you cannot afford to buy that game you have been eyeing for, just pay a few bucks, and you can play all you want!

I know this is anti-climax because we are talking about things we miss about the past, but when I saw this picture, I really had to incude it in.
I pity Primary Schoolers now, because the standard for English has increased by leaps and bounds over the years.

So, what do you miss about your childhood?

Please share your thoughts and comments and I will add on to my post!

Top 3 First Class Airlines

If you have the money to splurge, ever wondered which airlines give you the best service and most unforgetable experience?

TOP 3 First Class Airlines:

1. Qatar Airways

Flying first-class here means access to a separate terminal in Doha that mimics a five-star hotel with several fine-dining restaurants, a medical center, and a spa with sauna and Jacuzzi. On board passengers get caviar service, full-size pillows, white linen mattresses, Australian wool blankets and Bulgari toiletry kits. The seats are 79 inches long, have 15-inch LCD screens and come with a 23-inch meal table that allows dining for two, just as in a restaurant.

2. Singapore Airlines

Passengers here have total control of their experience including picking between Dom Perignon and Krug champagne and food whenever they want it and however they want it whether it's an extravagant five-course blowout or a quick meal served all at once. The seats are 82 inches long and 35 inches wide. Fliers are given a Ferragamo toiletry kits, Givenchy sleep suits and slippers. Seats flatten into beds with sheets, a down duvet and oversize pillows.

3. Cathay Pacific

Seats here become 'suites,' thanks to sliding panels that provide total privacy. They turn into 81-inch-long beds and have built-in massagers. Each flier also gets a personal closet to store belongings. Cathay got high marks for its food: It's one of the only carriers to have rice cookers, skillets and toasters onboard, so parts of meals are prepared fresh, like eggs made to order.

Still not luxurious enough? Then maybe its time to get your own name embossed on a plane, a private jet that is!

10 Ways to know if your BF (Best Friend / Boy Friend) is GAY!

(Original content from Marc, pls do not copy)

Suspect your best / boy friend is gay? Well, if your friend possesses 80% of the points mentioned below, likely he is tilted towards the other side.

1. He strongly believes that platonic friendship between girls and guys exist.

2. He loves to shop, especially in high end fashion boutiques.

3. He is comfortable even though he is in the lingerie department with a gal friend.

4. He does not believe in marriage.

5. He looks into the mirror or reflection whenever there is an opportunity to check himself out.

6. He gets emotional watching soapy dramas or sentimental movies.

7. He hates soccer!

8. He does not talk about girls, and when a group of guys start discussing girls, he gets bored and turns away.

9. He watches Manhunt and other male beauty pageants without leaving his seat throughout the entire show.

10. He rolls his eyes when he is unhappy or sarcastic.

Sounds familiar? Hmm . . . .

10 ways to know you are no longer a GIRL but an AUNTIE

Original content from Marc, pls do not copy.

1. When you pass by a place with a long queue, you join in the queue as well. You do not even bother to find out what the queue is for, because you believe if there is a queue, the people must be queueing for something good.

2. When you see someone giving out freebies like tissue, sanitary pad, magnets or key-chain at a roadshow, you intentionally walk towards the person so you will get the free gift. Sometimes you even attempt to walk over a few times so you can get more designs or colours.

3. When you are waiting for the train to come, you stand right at the centre of the platform screen door so you will be the first to go in.

4. When the platform screen door opens, you rush in, at all costs, to make sure you get a seat. If you see an elderly who needs the seat more than you do, you quickly close your eyes and pretend to be sleeping.

5. On the bus, you put your "barang barang" on the seat beside you, so that no one else can sit there because you like to sit alone. Also because you want to make your bus fare worth every cent.

6. You go around asking strangers in a shopping mall for receipts they do not want because you want to take part in the "Lucky Dip" organised by the shopping mall. Every $50 gives you one dip, so you accumulate more receipts for more chances.

7. You talk loud on the phone regardless of where you are, because you do not care what others think about you as long as the other party on the phone can hear you loud and clear.

8. You bargain everywhere, even if its for just 10 cents.

9. You rather shop in sub-urban neighbourhood shops because the clothes in town are too "loud" for you. Moreover the clothes in town do not have those flowery patterns you want.

10. You like uncles.

:P

The below information is based on my own research, and may or may not be 100% accurate. If I have given any wrong information, pls feel free to correct me politely, and I can make the necessary amendments. If anyone is offended, let me apologize in advance.

I have been doing some research over the last few days. Serious research.

Although I am Singaporean, I realised that there seems to be a lot of Malaysian bloggers out there, serious ones. So I tasked myself to find out which are Malaysia's most popular blogs, out of curiousity.

Well, curiousity kills the cat!

When I say popular here, I do not mean the daily visitors to the blog, I mean the number of links to this blog, so I made use of http://www.wholinkstome.com/ and started my research 3 days ago.

I went thru an extensive list of blogs, at least 200 of them, with the help of the MillionBlogList and WikiBlogDirectory and trust me, it was extremely tedious! Well, the effort was worth it because I got to know some new blogs!

AND . . .

Presenting to you, Malaysia's TOP 5 Most Linked Blogs:

1. http://www.jeffooi.com/ - 66,100 links
2. http://www.sapiensbryan.com/ - 55,966 links
3. http://www.kennysia.com/ - 23,000 links
4. http://www.shaolintiger.com/ - 20,299 links
5. http://www.rojaks.blogspot.com/ - 18,400 links

I will be doing my research on Singapore's TOP 5 Most Linked Blogs soon, and hopefully I will be able to present you with the results soon!

(Have you nanged me?)
