Goodbye Mum.....

A young man shopping in a supermarket noticed a little old lady following him around.
If he stopped, she stopped. Furthermore she kept staring at him.

She finally overtook him at the checkout, and she turned to him and said,
"I hope I haven't made you feel ill at ease; it's just that you look so much like my late son."

He answered, "That's okay."

"I know it's silly, but if you'd call out "Good bye, Mom" as I leave the store, it would make me feel so happy."

She then went through the checkout and, as she was on her way out of the store, the man called out, "Good-bye, Mom."

The little old lady waved, and smiled back at him.

Pleased that he had brought a little sunshine into someone's day, he went to pay for his groceries.

"That comes to $121.85," said the clerk..

"That can't be right... I only bought 5 items.."

The clerk replied, "Yeah, but your Mother said you'd be paying for her things, too."

Bet you thought this was going to be a tear jerker. Don't trust little old ladies!!!

ROFLMAO!!!

Reunion Dinner

For me, Chinese New Year is a time for me to "reunite" with my friends, friends whom I usually have no time for, that is.

This year, Esther invited me over to her house for Reunion Dinner again. This was the third time, though not consecutive.

She usually prepares steamboat and Tepanyaki.
This was only one third the actual spread.
It seems most families these days like to eat Steamboat / Tepanyaki during Reunion Dinners, because its fuss free...

After dinner, I went into the room to "visit" her many pets.
Her house is literally a "Pet Safari"!

Look at the number of hamsters she have, big and small!!!!
Imagine a shelf of hamsters!

Thats a first for me.

This is Dodo, her rabbit. She also has 2 Guinea Pigs, and planning to buy some more pets.....

Her rabbit Dodo is so cute, its left to run around like a dog..... LOL
I hope I can get myself a dog (Toy Poodle) too one day.

Top 3 Chinese New Year Goodies, high in calories!!!

According to nutritionists, the top three most fattening, high in Calories, Chinese New Year goodies are:

1. Pineapple Tarts
2. Bak Kwa
3. Love Letters (chocolate)

So, the next time you are about gorge on these delectable and irresistable goodies (junk food), do think twice, and think of the consequences.

Hereby, I would like to wish all my readers

Happy and Properous Lunar New Year!!!

Children and education.

I am blogging, while on my way to my favourite food stall to buy my dinner, thanks to data roaming.

Just a while ago, I was on the train, fiddling with my iPhone when I heard the voice of a toddler. He was going ,"Mum, iPhone, an orange iPhone."

That caught my attention, and i decided to blog about it.

I glanced down the petite toddler, who was holding on to mum's hand, just to do a quick analysis of his age, and I was pleasantly taken aback, that the boy in question was a three to four year old boy. I was surprised at how street smart the kids these days are, because I remember vaguely, that when I was three, I could probably only yak and murmur nonsensical words.

Are kids growing up faster because of the food they eat, the upbringing (more educated parents), or simply just evolution?

We can now see children engaging in adult-like negotiations with their parents, when situations aren't in their favour. When I was a kid, I had no such luxury! What my parents said was final, I'm sure most of you late twenties and thirties can identify.

With better education, healthier and more organic food, better educated parents, and evolution all factored it, I believe, in the very near future, the education system, the world over, is going to get so complicated, even parents will have a hard time coaching their children.

This is already evident in the Singapore Primary Education System. A few of my friends and colleagues, who have Primary School children, have raised their displeasure with the level of difficulty in their Mathematical Syllabus.

So, is modernisation working for us, or against us?

Get rid of bed bugs!

Today is a sucky day!

Yesterday night at around 2am, I was woken up by severe itching.

I found out later that I had bed bugs on my bed!

I then surfed the internet for solution, and sad to say, the only solution was either to change the bed, or to get the specialist in. I chose the latter.

At 9am today, I called up a Pest Control company, and fortunately, the director was the one who served me, and he arranged for his guys to come today at 1pm. All other companies I called needed a 2-working day notice.

I thought such services are considered urgent, and should be almost immediate? Well, you don't want the bed bugs to spread and grow, do you?

If the service turns out good, and solve my itching problem, I shall recommend it here to all my friends and readers.

Till then, I got to do some work:
Wash my comforter, bed sheet, pillow cases.... ARGH!

Yangs Sisters

Yang Sisters star Kym Ng, Alaric Tay and Co-stars Mark Zee.

Yang Sisters is a very entertaining sitcom centering around the Yang Family. I didn't know Kym Ng can speak such fluent English until I watched this sitcom. She doesn't speak in some weird accent, but she speaks good english in a Singaporean way, and that makes her even more likeable in the show.

My Kym Ng likeability meter has just gone up 2 notches.

The other person who is totally funny is Alaric Tay.

Alaric has natural comedic chops, and putting Alaric and Kym together in one sitcom is simply great synergy. Alaric doesn't need elaborated jokes to be funny, the moment he starts talking, its already funny. His animated facial expressions add to the comedic effect.

Adrian Pang and Gurmit Singh should be worried, very worried, because this guy can really give them a run for their money!

En Bloc

Finished En Bloc on Singtel MioTV.

En Bloc is a melodramatic series about a family's struggle, in coming to a cohesive decision to support the En Bloc proposition of their estate.

Its a very family oriented drama, a tad boring on the storyline, slightly predictable. Andrea Fonseka doesn't blend into the family at all, she sounds like an American Born Chinese in a totally "Cheena Family".

Lunch at Jumbo Seafood Restaurant Serangoon Gardens

Sis treated me to lunch at Jumbo Seafood Restaurant at Serangoon Gardens for my birthday.

I suggested the place because the food there is really good, and cheaper than most other Jumbos.

Unfortunately, that was the second last day of the operations of the Serangoon Gardens Branch.

They had since closed the branch there.

Watermelon Juice

Sambal Belachan

Chilli Padi

Sauteed Fried Scallop - TASTY!

Seafood Bacon Roll with Salad Cream - TASTY!

Fried Rice with Seafood and XO Sauce - Generous serving of Scallops and Prawns!

Spinach with Boxthorn - Average, the gravy a little too starchy

Sweet and Sour Spare Rib - Average

Mango Pudding

Honeydew Sago

Overall, the dining experience was pleasant.
Its just too bad I only dined there 4 times, I could have potentially been a regular patron there.
Hai...

Jay celebrated his birthday at Furama Hotel.

The hotel management is so thoughful, sent him a Birthday Card and a small birthday cake to send him their wishes!

This is jay, the birthday "boy"

Hai, I wonder why Intercontinental Hotel didn't send me their wishes when I booked their Suite for 2 nights to celebrate my birthday the other time.

But then again, I didn't tell them its my birthday lah....

Baby Bonus (添丁发财)

Have completed all 23 episodes of Channel 8 drama, Baby Bonus, 添丁发财, starring Felicia Chin 陈靓瑄 and Tay Ping Hui 郑斌辉.

Hehe, thanks to Singtel MioTV MobTV Select again.

Overall, I have been very much entertained by this drama series.
Of course the ending is predictable, a happy ending, typical of all Mediacorp family-oriented dramas.

Other than great acting from most of the supporting cast including Xiang Yun, Zhu Hou Ren, Apple Hong and Jesseca Liu, the one person I look forward to see in every episode, is the very very cute, adorable, cheerful and super likeable baby boy, Olympic.

If you have been watching the drama, you would know exactly what I mean.

He is sooooo cute....

Parental Guidance (Starring Adrian Pang & Jessica Hester Hsuan)

Just finished watching Parental Guidance Season 1 and 2.

I totally enjoyed the series largely due to Adrian Pang and Jessica Hsuan, or many may know her as 宣萱.

Prior to this, I have never known much about Jessica, except for the fact that she starred in the very popular Hong Kong drama series, Old Time Buddy, 难兄难弟 way back in the 1990s.

After watching this series, I am kind of obssessed with her, and a check with Wikipedia, I realise she is not just a good actress, but she is highly educated. She holds a degree from Imperial College London, that explains her very strong British accent throughout the show.

Jessica is super animated in all her expressions and gestures, and its really entertaining watching her.

Adrian, as usual, is as comedic as ever, and he never fails to make the character very likeable, although his role isn't very likeable to begin with, because he plays a super compulsive alcoholic, womaniser, bummer, and bad parent.

Season 1

I prefer the 3 kids in Season 1.

In Season 2, the "son" was blatantly replaced with an unknown child actor. The smallest daughter has a super strong British accent as well, and I thought it didn't really go well with a drama of such local context. For Jessica, it was fine because in the drama, she studied in England as well, but for the youngest daughter to speak with a super thick British accent when she was brought up in Singapore, nah, thumbs down.

Season 2

Oh, and for those who doesn't know, the eldest daugher in the series happens to be one of the top child violinist in the world today. I have seen a couple of documentaries about her before. She is super talented. Vanessa Mae in the making. I think her name is Fang Rong.
