Indonesia's former president Suharto dies at age 86

Just yesterday at our BBQ gathering, I was just asking Albert, as he is Indonesian, has he followed up on Suharto's news. And today he passed away. Life is unpredictable. . .

In memory of Indonesia's former president Suharto
20 Feb 1921 - 27 Jan 2008

JAKARTA : Former president Suharto died on Sunday aged 86, his family and police said at a Jakarta hospital.

"Father has returned to God," Suharto's eldest daughter, Siti Hariyanti "Tutut" Rukmana, told reporters breaking down in tears.

"We ask that if he had any faults, please forgive them...may he be absolved of all his mistakes," she said.

His death came more than three weeks after he was admitted to hospital with heart, lung and kidney problems, although he had surprised his doctors by his resilience despite being in a critical condition.

His team of doctors said earlier Sunday that Suharto had suffered multiple organ failure overnight, and had been resuscitated but remained unconscious.

"Our former president HM Suharto has passed away around 13:10 (0610 GMT)," Dicky Sondani, the sub-district police chief, told reporters at the hospital.

Suharto, who was among Asia's most notorious strongmen of the 20th century, stepped down in 1998 amid deadly riots and mass pro-democracy protests that were sparked by the 1997 Asian economic crisis.

Opinion on his rule remains divided in Indonesia, which also enjoyed dramatic economic growth under his rule.

After leaving office he dropped out of public view and avoided criminal trial for massive corruption allegations by citing poor health.

Attempts to bring him to justice for alleged human rights atrocities in East Timor, which he invaded in 1975, as well as Aceh and Papua, have also been stymied by a lack of evidence.

Doctors have said two strokes left him with some permanent brain damage.

A doctor who treated Suharto, Munawar, said: "We have worked our best...God has decided otherwise." "

At around nine or ten, the condition of the heart and blood pressure remained up and down and we, to be truthful, were already beginning to give up, because the condition of his brain, was already very serious...," he told ElShinta radio.

"At 11, we already told the family," that Suharto was dying, he said.

All of Suharto's six children had gathered on Sunday at his bedside, the former president's close aide, Moerdiono earlier said.

BBQ

Saturday

Activity: BBQ Gathering at Pauline and Tan's Condo

They met around evening time but I only went down at around 9pm cuz I was very tired so I took a short nap after I reached home in the evening. I brought a bottle of Chivas and Black Label as my contribution for the night.

This is Ronald BBQing for us.

The food and drinks

This sauce is made by Tan. Some Filipino sauce. Vinegar with soya sauce or something. I didn;t try cuz I am not very adventurous with food.

Ronald taking the Beer Bomb

They made some stranger who was celebrating his bday next table to try the Beer Bomb too. That guy is a Korean.

Albert's virgin drinking session.

Group Pic. It was a multi nationality gathering man. There were people from Pilippines, Malaysia, Pakistan, Indonesia and Singapore in our group.

Ronald talking about family life.

Group Picture again

This security tried to be funny with us. Kept coming to us and saying some residents complained we were too noisy when we spoke like mice most of the time. He came to us at least 3 times, but all 3 times we couldn't care less about him.

We left Tan and Pau's condo around 4 plus and walked to Bukit Batok central as I wanted to eat Mac Breakfast. Ronald, Ernest and Albert accompanied me to Mac and I was the only one who ate. Haha.
On our way to central, Ronald just went to the middle road and laid there for a few minutes.
He finally got up after like 4 minutes.

Overall it was a good session. Got to know Alexis and Uzair a lot better. Got to see the lighter side of Uzair as well. I just hope this team can be a stronger bonded team, not just among their clicques but among the entire team. I believe if everyone put their differernces aside, this team will BE a BEtter team!

Bangkok Trip Part 2

Continuation

This whole stretch has a lot of night clubs and dirty bars at night. I do not know the exact name of this street as I was just trying to pass thru here to get to where I want to go.

This, on the other hand, is a stretch of A-go-go Gay Bars. Its so competitve that whenever someone walk thru the street, they will try very hard to pull you in to their bar.
See how silly this sign is.
These are markings in the BTS train waiting area.
A neon massage sign.
A cute cat searching for food in the bin.

A video of the cat. Since I find it so cute, decided to capture it down for remembrance.
Cheesy advertising for a restaurant
A beggar on the streets of Bangkok
An old lady selling things in the streets for a living
Silom in the evening. At around 6pm, these shop owners will start setting up their stalls for the night crowd. A lof of people come here at night to buy stuffs.

Other than clothese and ornaments, there are a lot of food stalls
Ladies heels for only 99Batt. Gosh. Thats SGD$4!

Tuk Tuk.
A view during one of my Tuk Tuk rides back to Pullman Hotel
Jam again
They always indicate "Taxi Meter" but these unscrupulous Taxi Drivers always over charge and over quote. Ask them to change their taxi tops to "Taxi-Anyhow-Charge"!
Tourist taking Tuk Tuk
Finally its dinner and craving for Sharks Fin so we found this Chinese Restaurant and decided to give it a try.
Shangarila Kitchen
Colourless and un-tasty "Taiwan Vegetables" cooked in Oyster Sauce
They give 4 sauces for your meal
So-so Tofu and mushroom in Claypot
Extremely disappointing Sharks Fin! We ordered one claypot each as we thought its going to be nice. Turn out, its watery and sharks finless.
Lucky my favourite drink is still nice. U shd try Thailand's Ice Tea Milk when u r there. Its usually good. "Cha Yen"
Seafood fried rice
Prawns in chilli
The exterior of the restaurant
Good? What good?

This is a free movie screening outisde Bkk's version of GV.
Quite a wide range of movies here
Tops Super Supermarket
Arcade games machine
Chinese New Year bazaar

DFS gave me a box of chocolate free for every returning visit I make to their shops. Talk about loyalty program.
This is how many packets we bought.
This flavour is damm nice! Not found in Singapore de.
Hotel lounge. The hotel gave us a complimentary free drink each for being their guest.
Nice bar counter
Nice couches
Good selection of alcohol
This is another restaurant in MBK. I would say it a very confused restaurant as they serve so many different cuisines in one restaurant. Jap, Italian and Thai?
Calamari
Jap curry pork cutlet
Thai Fish cake and popiah
This is the shop I always go in MBK to do my final snack and tidbits shopping before I return to SG. MBK Level 2.

Make a guess what this is. Artistic right? Its actually a dog sleeping in the middle of the open area outside MBK.
Packed my bags. I came only with my Samsonite luggage, but I went home with an additional China bag and a carton, both full of snacks.
Before I left for the airport, I quickly went to Siam Paragon to do a last scan on the designer sale there. Ferragamo, Gucci, Mont Blanc, LV, etc.
Lastly Siam Center.

After this, I went for a massage again just before I went back to the hotel to pick up my luggage and headed straight to the airport for my 7.45pm flight.
Overall it was a relaxing trip, but I wouldn't say I really enjoyed myself.
Next stop. Either Tokyo, Taipei or Melbourne. Still considering which one.
