Recycling TRENDS - Rubik's Cube

I had to get this off my chest as I have been very puzzled by this for at least 2 weeks now. Recently, the trend for Rubik's Cube is back.

Rubik originally was invented as a 2X2X2 puzzle by Harry D Nicholas, however 4 years after it was invented, Rubik, the founder of Rubik's cube, improved the version, and changed it to a 3X3X3 puzzle and ever since, all is history.

Between 1980 to 1982, 100 million Rubik's Cube were sold. Since then, many variations were introduced to the market like 4X4x4 cubes and mini cubes.

As many ardent fans have managed to solve the mystery of the Rubik's cube, its no longer about solving the cube, but solving the cube in the fastest possible time, or under various conditions, like blindedfolded, or underwater, or even both! Some can even solve the cube with one hand and many records have been broken in recent years ever since the trend is back.

Current world record holder is Thibaut Jacquinot from France who solved the puzzle in 9.86 seconds on 5 May 2007! Amazing!

Maybe someone should organize a Olympics for games whereby people from all countries will vie for championship positions in Rubik's Cube, 5-stones, zero-point, and what have you. Hey, don't ever think its not possible, since there are championships for LAN gaming already. Singapore will definitely come out tops in such competitions since we are also the current world champion title holder of LAN game, Counterstrike. (Don't quote me on this as the record might have been broken as I am typing this)

One thing for sure I know, even if we can't find anyone good enough to represent us in the competitions, there is always something call "importing and exporting". Singapore is well known for that too. Import them over, give them a PR status, and then they represent Singapore and become top players in various arenas. Sounds familiar. Humph.

I hope one day, all the games I used to play when I was young will come back as a trend again as I really miss those days when computers were a rare asset, and owning just a Micro-Genius Game Set was like a huge thing already.

Who knows, in a few years, trends like Tamagotchi, Tetris hand-held would surface back into the society.

Then we can have competitions like "The player with the highest score playing tetris blindfolded" or "The player with the longest surviving Tamagotchi pet".

Don't say i didn't warn you, cuz you can quote me on that, Tamagotchi will be back soon!
